Earth 9: Precious Metals

Artist Statement: Precious Metals

Gold, copper, silver, lead, iron are among the metals that have been used by man beginning as far back as 5000 years ago and possibly much further. Metals have been tooled by man for just about every purpose imaginable including use in providing shelter; creating a means for economic transactions; weapons for protection; to assist in getting food for survival; providing transportation; the modern technology for computers and communication; and finally ornamentation. Metals have universally been held in high esteem through the ages. This globe is painted with metallic golds, silver, and copper to focus on another aspect of the earth, its precious metals hidden in the earth’s crust.
